In Mont Belvieu, Texas a number of people were all evacuated from their homes due to two chemical mishaps that happened at chemical factories along the Highway, number 146. The chemical fire appeared to be black oil shooting up from the ground, also on fire. It was actually salt water and hydrocarbon chemicals as well as a another fire at two different plants. The first was called LyondellBasell’s and another was called Lone Star NGL. LyondellBasell was reported the chemical fire to be performed by a pressure build-up in a wellhead. Apparently there were no injuries, and the evacuation was only in effect for six hours. City Manager Bryan Easum was quotes as saying “We want to be sure that everything is safe.” In an effort to be thoroughly safe the highway was temporarily closed off, and both incidents are being investigated.
