Storage compliance

Which fire rating do you need?

Your fire marshal or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) sets the rating and separation distance for your site. Use this as a starting point — we will confirm with your materials list and site layout.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between non-fire-rated, 2-hour and 4-hour fire-rated storage buildings?

The rating is how long the walls resist fire in a standard test. Non-fire-rated buildings suit non-flammable chemicals, or flammables where your site has the separation distance your fire marshal requires. 2-hour and 4-hour fire-rated buildings let flammable and combustible liquids sit closer to other buildings and property lines. Your authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) sets the rating and separation for your site — we help you size it.

How many drums or totes can a hazmat storage building hold?

The models in this catalog hold 6 to 60 drums, or 4 IBC totes with a pump and work area. Across our full fleet, drum storage buildings hold 1 to 180 drums and tote or pallet buildings hold 1 to 36 totes or pallets.

How fast can you deliver a storage building or tornado shelter?

We ship across the US and internationally. In-stock inventory can be delivered in days with rush processing.

Is delivery included in the rental?

Full turnkey delivery and pickup are available. They are quoted per site and are not part of the standard monthly rental rate.

How is tornado shelter capacity measured?

We list each shelter as "up to X persons Maximum Occupancy", calculated at 3 sq ft per person. Design occupancy, at 5 sq ft per person under the FEMA P-361 and ICC 500 method, is shown on each model page.

What is the difference between a Concrete Slab Install and a Mobile Base (No Concrete)?

A Concrete Slab Install anchors the shelter to an engineered slab for permanent placement. A Mobile Base (No Concrete) shelter sits on its own steel base, so there is no pour and it can be relocated.
